The Gil System
This system for dishing out money is based on your character’s social status as opposed to their actual experience level. Gil will not be numerically allocated to your character, instead one of the below titles will explain what your financial limits are within the game. These levels can fluctuate over time, and these explanations will not always apply to whom they describe. If you believe your character's monetary levels need to be re-evaluated then please go to the application documents section and complete a form.
Beggar: Owns nothing and makes no income except by either begging or stealing. Often times these individuals live each day as it comes and their priority is to find food and shelter above all other things.
Frugal: The frugal level characters make a decent enough wage through working, farming, or traveling to buy the bare necessities needed to live. Almost every citizen of Ivalice fits in this income bracket. They must be careful in how they spend their money at all times otherwise they, too, might be forced to beg or steal to survive. Others might be paid decently enough working for substantial leveled individuals that they own a nice home with comfortable furnishings and an abundance of food to feed their families.
Substantial: The substantial level characters usually own a business of some sort, or are self-made money-makers. These individuals have varying incomes from “getting by comfortably” to “doing great” in terms of wealth. They usually own a very nice home whether it’s a shop in the city or a traveling carriage that peddles goods from location to location. If they don’t own their own business, then they usually work for someone who does and makes a great living off of it to get a sizable income from them. This isn’t limited to retail type stores either. Sometimes bartenders, blacksmiths, tailors, jewelers, enchanters, and all other sorts of craft-based shop owners as well as soldiers thrive well within this monetary range depending upon their business location and the economical wealth of their area.
Wealthy: The wealthy class characters make a great deal of money either through their work or inheritance. Often nobles and high commanding officers fall under this category since their income comes in spades through the state or through high-priced goods. They have money for more than one home in different locations, and often host parties, attend court, travel, are very well educated, and ultimately lead a decently luxurious lifestyle.
Extravagant: These individuals are usually the top brass, royalty, or the upper echelon of society. Their monetary income is almost limitless as they might own multiple homes, or a castle with some of the highest quality decor in the world. Food and clothing are imported from all corners of the lands, and they’re often willing to flaunt their financial status to those around them. They’ll own exotic animals, private armies, personal servants, even host multiple parties at leisure. The world is their oyster and they do as they please.
